For the first time, Guadalajara will host the 2026 Michelin Guide Mexico Ceremony, the event where the new stars, recommendations, and most important accolades in Mexican cuisine are revealed.
And yes: this year, Jalisco officially joins the “Michelin club,” so several restaurants in Guadalajara could receive stars for the first time.
Here are five things you should know about the Michelin Ceremony in Guadalajara… and we’ll share our predictions.
1. Guadalajara will host the 2026 Michelin Gala
The ceremony will take place on May 20 in Guadalajara, the city that was officially named the Host City for the event.
That means chefs, sommeliers, food journalists, and key figures from all over Mexico will gather in Jalisco to discover the new restaurants recognized by Michelin.
The broadcast will begin at 7:00 p.m. and can be watched live on Michelin’s YouTube channel.
2. That night, it’s not just stars that are awarded
During the gala, the new Michelin Stars for Mexico —one, two, and three stars—will be announced, along with other important awards.
Among them are:
- Bib Gourmand (great quality at an affordable price)
- Green Star (sustainable projects)
- Special awards for service and hospitality
- Restaurants recommended by the guide
In other words: it’s not all about fine dining. More casual, local, or traditional cuisine projects could also make an appearance.
3. Jalisco officially joins the Michelin Guide
Until 2025, the guide only evaluated restaurants in:
- Mexico City
- Baja California
- Baja California Sur
- Nuevo León
- Oaxaca
- Quintana Roo
But for the 2026 edition , Jalisco, Puebla, and Yucatán are officially joining the lineup .
4. The Guadalajara restaurants most likely to get Michelin stars 👀

Although Michelin is keeping everything under wraps until the ceremony, several Guadalajara projects have been appearing on local prediction lists for some time .
Among the most frequently mentioned names are:
- Xokol
- Mayor
- Decenizas
- Allium
- Sea Urchin
- Teté Cocina de Barrio
- Tikuun
- Kasuga
For Bib Gourmand:
- Fonda Doña Mica
- Birriería El Chino

And keep an eye out: there could also be surprises outside of Guadalajara, especially in coastal and sustainable cuisine projects in Puerto Vallarta.
5. This could change the way people eat in Guadalajara
The fact that Guadalajara is hosting the ceremony is not just symbolic. It also puts the city on the international culinary radar.
The immediate impact for locals? More media attention and longer waitlists at some top restaurants.
But it could also open the door to local establishments that weren’t previously part of the national conversation.
