Just a few kilometers from Mascota is this little town with a lake in Jalisco that few people know about, and we don’t understand why: La Yerbabuena.
It is a charming place, surrounded by mountains and mountain-style houses (red tile roofs, adobe walls, and flower pots on the facades), with cobblestone streets and just over 400 inhabitants.
A must-see if you’re in the Mascota area: it’s the perfect place to enjoy mountain life, between the lake and the mountains.
What to do in La Yerbabuena, Jalisco?

Perhaps its biggest attraction is the lake, where you can see ducks and geese and sit for a while to contemplate the landscape or have a picnic.
Afterwards, you can stroll through its cobbled streets, admire the traditional houses, and sample the local products you find along the way.
It is a traditional area, famous for its birria, pozole, and typical guava sweets.
Once you’ve explored everything, take the opportunity to visit the surrounding area, such as El Molcajete Volcano, Juanacatlán Lagoon, and Mascota itself .
How to get there:
It is about threehours from Guadalajara (via Ameca – Mascota). Once you arrive in Mascota, take the east exit towards the Mascota-La Yerbabuena highway. It is very well signposted.
