Great news! On March 11, 2026, it was officially confirmed that Jalisco will be included in the Michelin Guide Mexico, one of the world’s most influential culinary publications.
The announcement was made by Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the guide, who reported that Jalisco, Puebla, and Yucatán will be the new states to be evaluated by Michelin inspectors for future editions.
What does it mean for Jalisco to be included in the Michelin Guide?
The Michelin Guide is not just a list of restaurants: it is one of the most important culinary recognition systems in the world.
With the addition of Jalisco, anonymous inspectors are already visiting restaurants in the state, evaluating everything from haute cuisine to traditional and local cuisine.
Establishments can aspire to different awards:
- ⭐ Michelin stars – for restaurants with exceptional cuisine.
- 🍽️ Bib Gourmand – places offering great quality at affordable prices.
- 🌱 Michelin Green Star – restaurants with a focus on sustainability.
This means that everything from signature restaurants to small eateries could appear in the guide.
When the Michelin Guide arrived in Mexico in 2024, it only included restaurants in six states: Mexico City, Oaxaca, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo, and Nuevo León.
Now, the country’s culinary map is expanding westward.
Not just fine dining: tradition too

One of the interesting things about the Michelin Guide in Mexico is that it does not only reward luxury restaurants.
In previous editions, even taquerías and informal establishments have received recognition.
This opens the door for iconic Jalisco dishes such as torta ahogada, carne en su jugo, and traditional birrierías to also become part of the international gastronomic conversation.
When will we see Guadalajara restaurants in the guide?
Although the inclusion is now official, the selected restaurants will be announced in an upcoming edition of the Michelin Guide Mexico, once the inspectors have completed their evaluation.
