The Snow Moon, one of the most eagerly awaited astronomical phenomena in February, will be visible across the country this Sunday, February 1.
If, like us, you are a fan of everything that happens in the sky, then this information will interest you.
A natural event steeped in history and symbolism that you can observe in the city, but also from the most beautiful viewpoints in Guadalajara.
Why is it called the Snow Moon?

This is what the Native American tribes of the north (what is now the United States and Canada) called the full moon in February.
For them, this month was the one with the heaviest snowfall, and the name served to mark the time and prepare for the worst of winter.
In places where snow falls, a small phenomenon occurs: the full moon is reflected in the fresh snow and the nights are brighter.
However, this is not the only name it has been given throughout history. In some cultures , it is also known as the Hunger Moon, due to the scarcity of food during this time of year.
When will the next full moon be?
After the Snow Moon, the next full moon will occur on March 3, 2026.
On that day, there will be a total lunar eclipse, creating the “Blood Moon” effect .
As for Supermoons, we will have to wait until the end of the year, as the next one is scheduled for November 24, 2026.
If you are interested in astronomy or simply enjoy natural spectacles, this Sunday will be an excellent opportunity to look up at the sky.
