After days of protests by students, collectives, and public transportation users, Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus announced a significant change in transportation fares in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.
The decision: no one will pay 14 pesos.
The fare for transportation in Guadalajara will be 11 pesos
Starting April 1, the cost of public transportation in the city will be 11 pesos, whether you pay with a card or cash.
This means that there will be no differentiated fare, as had been initially proposed.
In addition, the state government confirmed that all current cards will remain valid, so it will not be mandatory to switch to a new Single Card to use transportation.
Students will continue to pay 5 pesos.
Another important point is that the subsidy for students will remain in place.
Those who are eligible for the benefit will continue to pay 5 pesos per trip. To access the support, they will only need to present:
- CURP
- School Kardex
Just as before.
Transportation programs for vulnerable sectors that already have this benefit will also be maintained.
There will be no further increases during this six-year term.
The governor also assured that there will be no further fare adjustments during his six-year term, meaning that the price of transportation will remain at 11 pesos for the next few years.
This announcement comes after various student organizations and groups expressed their concern about the possible increase to 14 pesos and the change in the card system.
Now, the city’s transportation system will maintain a single price and multiple forms of payment, seeking to avoid complications for users.
