The next time you visit Guadalajara’s Historic Center, stop by the San Juan de Dios Market to see its new colorful tile mural.
The artwork is titled “Refuerzo común” and was created by Guadalajara-based artist José Dávila on the ceiling spanning approximately 190 storefronts.
The piece is made up of nearly 33,000 ceramic mosaic tiles of various colors and, according to municipal authorities, is the largest tile mural in Jalisco.

The installation revives the original vision of architect Alejandro Zohn, who designed the market in the 1950s.
He had envisioned a colorful element for this area of the building that never came to fruition—until now.
The color palette is inspired by the fruits, vegetables, and other products sold on the market’s ground floor.

The unveiling of “Refuerzo común” is part of the comprehensive renovation of the San Juan de Dios Market.
With an investment of approximately 37.5 million pesos, the Guadalajara City Council carried out work for its comprehensive renovation.
