A couple of years ago, the government passed a decree establishing March 19 as Municipal Tejuino Day in Guadalajara, with the aim of recognizing the historical and cultural value of this ancestral drink typical of Jalisco, Colima, and Nayarit. And, of course, throwing a big party around it.
Tejuino is a tradition inherited from the Wixárika culture. It is prepared with sprouted corn kernels, piloncillo, and a touch of lemon, salt, and chili. On the hottest days, the version with lemon or vanilla ice cream is a must, making it a unique refreshment full of local flavor.
Hundreds of free drinks on Tejuino Day in Guadalajara

This Sunday, March 22, 2026, marks the 4th anniversary of Tejuino Day, with activities in the heart of the city. The event will take place at Paseo Alcalde, in downtown Guadalajara, starting at 10:15 a.m.
Local producers will bring the best of their tejuino for you to taste and discover the different styles prepared in Jalisco. In addition, there will be cultural and recreational activities.
Last year, attendees enjoyed traditional dance and mariachi music, and although this year’s shows have not yet been confirmed, the festive atmosphere and flavor are guaranteed. Add this event to your March plans.
