How to get to El Salto Waterfall in Mazamitla (without getting lost in the process)

🚶♂️ On foot (hiking)
A walk of between 45 and 60 minutes depending on your pace. The path is paved, surrounded by pine trees, with beautiful views and is well marked. Tip: the way there is mostly downhill, but on the way back you will feel the climb.
🐎 On horseback
Very Mazamitla style. You can rent horses before entering the subdivision or in the town center. The approximate cost is $200 to $350 per hour.
🏍️ By bus
Available only on weekends, this is a good option if you are not traveling with older adults. It costs $50 pesos one way and $50 pesos return, and you can buy your tickets at the entrance to the subdivision.
El Salto Waterfall in Mazamitla: what to expect when you arrive

This waterfall has a drop of approximately 35 meters, depending on the season. The best months to visit are from June to October, during the rainy season.
During these months, the waterfall is much more abundant and the forest looks greener. In the dry season, the stream may be thinner.
Practical recommendations before you go:
- Footwear: Sneakers or boots with non-slip soles. The path and the waterfall area are often wet.
- Clothing: Bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. Even when it’s sunny, the temperature drops significantly under the trees and near the water.
- Water and snacks: There are a few small stalls near the entrance and sometimes in the waterfall area, but it’s best to bring your own hydration.
