The former Oblatos Prison Park is set to undergo a major transformation. The Guadalajara City Council announced a renovation project that aims to transform this public space into an urban forest, featuring more green spaces, sports facilities, and areas for family fun.
The project involves an investment of more than 100 million pesos and will be carried out in phases so that park activities can continue while construction is underway.
One of the biggest changes will be the restoration of areas currently covered in concrete. The project calls for removing approximately 6,300 square meters of concrete to restore the soil and plant more than 600 trees.
The trails and walkways will also be renovated, with improvements to sidewalks and paths within the park. The goal is to increase green spaces and make this place one of the most beautiful parks in Guadalajara.
There will also be a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool

The sports area will feature several new additions. The most striking is the construction of a semi-Olympic-sized pool on the site where the auditorium once stood.
In addition, the project includes the renovation of the multipurpose courts, fronton courts, and the baseball diamond.
The project will also add spaces for calisthenics and boxing, while some of the existing stone formations in the park will be repurposed to create children’s play areas.
A park where you can hang out

The renovation also includes new spaces designed for social interaction, with the goal of making the Former Prison not just a place to play sports, but also a place to spend time with friends, family, or neighbors.
The project will even extend to the streets surrounding the park, where improvements are planned for lighting, sidewalks, and intersections, as well as changes to streamline traffic flow.
The nearby 18 de Marzo Civic Plaza will also be renovated. For more information, check the Gobierno Guadalajara social media accounts.
