Very close to Guadalajara there is a place that very few people know about, and it is a true natural spectacle where hot water and steam emerge from the earth among rocks covered in minerals: this is the Ixcatán Geyser.
Located in the community of San Francisco Ixcatán, north of Zapopan, this natural phenomenon is a reminder of the volcanic activity that existed in this region thousands of years ago and is formed by underground activity.
Basically, the water heats up underground and emerges under pressure as steam and jets of hot water, leaving yellow, white, and greenish hues on the rocks due to the accumulation of minerals and sulfur.
The steam mixes with sunlight and creates small rainbows around the hot water. Additionally, the high temperatures create a sensation similar to that of a natural sauna.

The geysers are located on private property, and access is restricted to help preserve this natural phenomenon and prevent damage to the geothermal area. For this reason, they are not currently open to the public as a tourist attraction.
However, if you want to enjoy hot springs in the area, you can visit the Rancho Ávila’s spa , located approximately five kilometers from San Francisco Ixcatán, on the road to Saltillo
This affordable swimming spot features thermal pools and pools fed by natural springs, as well as a children’s area, showers, tables, and grills to enjoy the day. You can find all the information here.
