If you’ve been wanting to plan a getaway that lets you connect with nature, camp by the sea, and enjoy beautiful views, we’d like to tell you about Mayto Beach.
It is an 11-kilometer-long beach with golden sand, blue water, and giant waves. Without a doubt, it is an ideal place to unwind and immerse yourself in activities such as releasing sea turtles, camping, and strolling through the mangroves.
Plus, the atmosphere is incredibly peaceful, making it perfect for a romantic getaway and enjoying beautiful sunsets by the sea.
How to get to Mayto Beach

If you’re leaving from Puerto Vallarta, take Federal Highway 200 until you reach the town of El Tuito. Once there, you’ll come to a turnoff toward Llano Grande de Ipala. Take that road and continue past Rancho de Los Conejos until you reach Mayto.
The best part is that if you love road trips, you’ll be able to watch nature change as you travel. You’ll go from coastal jungle to forest until you reach a drier, semi-desert climate.
Once you arrive, you’ll have the option to camp on your own, stay at the hotel, or camp in the designated area.
Things to do at Mayto Beach
Some of the activities you can enjoy here include:
- Participate in turtle releases (depending on the season)
- Camping
- Stay at the Hotel Mayto
- Eat fresh seafood
- Snorkeling
If you love fresh oysters and seafood, you can also visit the neighboring town of Tehuamixtle, less than 10 minutes from Mayto. There, you can also enjoy its small bay and eat oysters fresh from the sea.

If you’re going camping, we recommend bringing:
- Tent
- Sleeping bag or blanket
