Two and a half hours from Guadalajara lies a small protected natural area that is a true hidden gem: Lago de Camécuaro National Park.
You can easily get there by private car or by public transportation, taking a bus to Zamora first and then another to Tangancícuaro.
The lake is fed by several springs and surrounded by beautiful trees with exposed roots—ash, juniper, ahuehuete, and more—making the landscape truly unique. Additionally, the turquoise color of the water changes depending on the light and the season.

You can enjoy various activities such as:
• Boat ride
• Flora and fauna observation
• Camping
• Swimming in designated areas
• Trout fishing
• Hiking
Since it is a spring-fed lake, the water tends to stay cool year-round, so it’s worth bringing a change of clothes and non-slip shoes if you plan to swim.
It also has food courts, restrooms, and covered areas. You can also bring your own food for a picnic.
It tends to get quite crowded on weekends, so if you’re looking for a more peaceful experience, it’s best to visit during the week.
