The iconic building in Zapopan’s Historic Center will soon become the Western Archaeology Museum, a venue that aims to establish itself as the most important of its kind in this region of the country. The first images of what it will look like have already been released.
For years, the building that once housed Zapopan’s City Hall served as the seat of government. Now, that building will be completely transformed to make way for a new cultural venue: the Western Archaeology Museum.
Renovation work is already underway and includes a comprehensive restoration of the building, respecting its historical value while adapting it to house one of the municipality’s most ambitious cultural projects.
The most important archaeology museum in western Mexico
The new Western Archaeology Museum aims to become the most important archaeological venue in the entire western region of the country.
Its goal will be to collect, preserve, and promote the archaeological heritage of states such as Jalisco, Colima, Nayarit, Michoacán, and other areas of western Mexico, bringing the public closer to the cultures that inhabited this part of the country long before the arrival of the Spanish.
In addition to exhibition halls, the museum will feature spaces for research, outreach, and cultural activities, as well as a terrace and a café that will enhance the visitor experience.
